Sitemap & Robots Validator
Validate XML sitemaps, robots.txt directives, and indexing rules in one click.
What "valid" actually means
A valid XML sitemap is one that Google can parse without errors. That means a correct root element (urlset for URL sitemaps or sitemapindex for index files), a proper namespace, no syntax errors, and URLs that are absolute (not relative). The 50,000-URL and 50 MB limits are hard limits — exceed them and Google silently drops the file.

Common sitemap mistakes
- Relative URLs (
/aboutinstead ofhttps://…/about). - Including 404s or redirected URLs.
- Mixing
httpsandhttpin one sitemap. - Stale or future
lastmoddates that don't match the page content. - Forgetting to reference the sitemap in robots.txt.
How the robots.txt tester decides
Enter any bot (name or full UA string) and any path and the tester replicates Google's interpretation: the groups whose token matches your bot — exactly, or as the longest case-insensitive prefix — win (falling back to *), their rules are merged, and thelongest matching path pattern decides the outcome — with Allow winning ties. Patterns support * wildcards and the $ end anchor. An emptyDisallow: means "allow everything", which is not the same asDisallow: /.
